TEMPLATE – Multi-Agency Sheltering/Sheltering Support Plan Template (MASPT)
The purpose of the Multi-Agency Sheltering/Sheltering Support Plan Template (MASPT) is to supplement a jurisdiction’s Emergency Operations Plan and/or Mass Care Annex, and provide guidance and suggested procedures for a jurisdiction to consider in the development of a sheltering plan that focuses on their role of managing and/or supporting sheltering activities. Two years in the works, the comprehensive multi-agency sheltering document was developed in coordination with FEMA Headquarters and Regional Mass Care staff, the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, State Mass Care Coordinators, local emergency management, and the FEMA Office of Disability Integration and Coordination. The template is based on best practices and concepts that have been proven during previous disasters.
WEBINAR MATERIALS – NMCS: How Task Forces Strengthen Mass Care Preparedness & Response
Multi-Agency Task Forces have become an important resource for effective preparedness and response during times of disaster. During the National Mass Care Strategy (NMCS) Webinar presented on November 12th, presenters from various sectors discussed the evolution of Task Forces and their use in various operations—a Disaster Incident, a Mass Care Exercise, and a National Community Event. Presentation materials and a recording are available online at: http://nationalmasscarestrategy.org/nmcs-webinar-how-task-forces-strengthen-mass-care-preparedness-and-response/.
Ready Check: Cell Phone Alerts
FEMA reminds the public to be aware and know how to prepare for the unexpected. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) may be used to send imminent threat weather alerts – allowing users a critical window of time to follow directions and find safety – as well as AMBER or other emergency alerts in a warning area. The availability of WEA alerts depends on cellular device capability and wireless carrier networks availability. To determine if a wireless device can receive WEA alerts, contact the wireless carrier. Visit http://www.ready.gov/alerts for more information about receiving alerts. A list of public safety agencies using WEA, and information about becoming a state or county alerting authority, is available at http://www.fema.gov/integrated-public-alert-warning-system.
